This policy explains what Goeria collects about you, why we collect it, who we pass it to, and what you can ask us to do with it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal filler, because a policy you cannot understand protects nobody.
Goeria is a mobile application operated by JCMLabs and Digital Innovations, a sole proprietorship registered in the United Republic of Tanzania.
We are the data controller for the information described here. That means we decide what is collected and why, and we are answerable for it.
Goeria sells tickets to events, cinema screenings, tours, safaris and ferry crossings in Tanzania. You browse listings, choose a ticket, pay using mobile money, and receive a digital ticket with a QR code that is scanned at the entrance.
| What | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Your phone number | It is how you sign in. We send a one time code to it by SMS. It is the only identity Goeria has for you, because there is no password. |
| Your name, if you give one | So a ticket can be issued in a name, and so staff at an entrance can match a ticket to a person. Optional. |
| Your email address, if you give one | Only to send you a copy of your ticket. Optional, and you can book without it. |
| The categories you pick | To decide what to show you first. Nothing more. |
| Your bookings | What you bought, how many, the price, your ticket code, and whether it has been paid for. This is your ticket. Without it there is nothing to show at a gate. |
| The mobile money number you pay from | To send the payment request to the right wallet, and to trace a payment that goes wrong. In the app we only ever show it partly hidden, for example 0712***678. |
| A notification token from your device | So we can tell you when a payment completes or a ticket is ready. It identifies the installation, not you personally. |
| Basic technical information | Your device type, app version and the time of a request, recorded in our server logs so we can find faults and detect abuse. |
We think what is absent matters as much as what is present.
Payments are handled by Payme Africa, our mobile money payment provider. When you pay for a ticket, the money moves through Payme Africa, not through us. We pass them the amount, your mobile money number and a reference for your booking. They send back whether the payment succeeded.
As a buyer, Goeria does not hold your money. We do not operate a wallet, we do not store a balance for you, and we cannot move funds out of your account by ourselves. A payment only ever happens because you approved it on your own phone. Organisers are different, as the next section explains.
Goeria Business is the app event organisers and their staff use to sell tickets, scan them at the entrance and get paid. If you use it, we also keep:
The camera is used only to read ticket QR codes and to take an event photo when you choose to; nothing is recorded otherwise. The app lock (fingerprint, face or PIN, on unless you turn it off) is checked by your phone, and we never receive your fingerprint or face. Buyers' names and ticket quantities are shown to you and your staff only to admit them; please use them for nothing else.
To close an organiser account, see deleting an organiser account: we settle your balance and events first, then delete your personal data within 30 days.
We share the minimum required to make the app work, and only with these parties.
We do not share your information with anyone else, and we do not allow these providers to use it for their own purposes.
Your information is stored on servers we control, and with the providers listed above. Some of those servers are located outside Tanzania. Where that is the case, we take reasonable steps to see that the information is protected to a standard comparable to what Tanzanian law requires.
A copy of a paid ticket is also stored on your own phone, so that it still opens at a venue where there is no mobile signal. That copy lives in your device's protected storage and is removed when you sign out or delete the app.
Under the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 of Tanzania, you have the right to do all of the following.
Write to us at support@goeria.com to exercise any of these. We will respond within thirty days.
You can delete your Goeria account and the personal information attached to it at any time. There are two ways to do it.
When you delete your account we remove your name, email address, chosen categories, notification token and the mobile money number attached to your bookings. We keep a minimal record of completed transactions where tax and accounting law requires it, and those records are not used for any other purpose. Anything we keep is disconnected from your profile.
Deletion is permanent. A ticket for an event that has not yet happened will stop working, so please use any ticket you have paid for before deleting your account.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach occurs that puts your information at real risk, we will tell you and notify the Personal Data Protection Commission as the law requires.
Goeria is not intended for children under the age of eighteen, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will remove it. Some events listed on Goeria carry their own age restrictions set by the organiser, and those apply at the door.
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Where a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Goeria after that means you accept the updated policy.
If anything here is unclear, or you want to know what we hold about you, write to support@goeria.com and a person will answer you.
